Most of us carry a stone in a pocket at some point and never think much more of it. Julie Chipperfield-Carr asks you to think a little harder about one stone in particular. As a Reiki Master and holistic therapist trading as Julie’s Crystal Rainbow, and part of the Oraphim team, she runs the stall with Clive and spends the weekend at the Guildhall introducing visitors to shungite: what it is, what it is claimed to do, and how people actually use it day to day.
What shungite is, in plain terms
Shungite is an unusual carbon-rich mineral, and the interest in it centres on the naturally occurring molecules it contains. Julie’s talks walk through the basics without the jargon, so you leave understanding what you are holding rather than just being told it is special. Her focus is practical: less mystique, more “here is how this fits into an ordinary week.”
Everyday uses she’ll talk you through
The most common questions Julie gets are the simple ones, and that is where she starts. How people use shungite with water at home. How it turns up in jewellery you can wear rather than shelve. And the reason a lot of people first come looking for it: support against the low-level electromagnetic buzz of a house full of devices. Julie sets out how these pieces are used so you can decide for yourself whether it earns a place in your routine. Specific health or protective claims for shungite are not independently established, Julie presents traditional and manufacturer use rather than medical benefit.
Reiki and holistic therapy
Alongside the shungite talks, Julie works as a Reiki Master and holistic therapist. That background is why her stand tends to draw people who are less interested in a quick purchase and more interested in how a practice fits a wider sense of wellbeing. She is happy to talk through what she offers and point you towards what suits you, without any pressure to buy on the spot.
What you’ll find at her stand
Expect crystals and shungite pieces, jewellery, and the related Oraphim products, with Julie on hand to explain rather than sell at you. If you have wondered about shungite from something you have read online, this is a chance to ask someone who works with it directly and get a straight answer.
Something to try this week
You do not need to buy anything to borrow the idea behind Julie’s approach. Pick one device that is never off near where you sleep, the phone on the bedside table is the usual culprit, and move it across the room for a week. Notice whether the first few minutes of your morning feel any different when the screen is not the first thing within arm’s reach. It is a small, free experiment in the same spirit as everything Julie teaches: try it, notice, then decide.
Julie is one of over 70 readers, healers and stallholders at the Mind Body Spirit & Wellness Weekend, Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September 2026, at Stockport Masonic Guildhall. Her talks, like every session across the weekend, are included with entry.
